1. ASE 2006 in Baltimore a Success

ASE thanks the more than 3,000 individuals who attended the 17th Annual ASE Scientific Sessions in Baltimore and made them such a success! This fun and educational 5-day program would not have been possible if it were not for this years excellent Program Committee. ASE would like to thank Chairman William Zoghbi, MD, FASE and the rest of his committee for all of the energy they put into making the 2006 annual meeting a spectacular event.

The Sessions featured a tremendous line-up of talent with something for everyone. Highlights included Past-President Dr. Bijoy Khandherias Edler lecture entitled Back to the Future and Dr. Jonathan Lindners Feigenbaum Lecture entitled Thinking Big, Looking Small: Diagnostic Opportunities by Echo Imaging of the Molecular Basis of Disease. Echo Jeopardy with a new 2006 Mission Impossible theme was packed, and Dr. Steven A. Goldstein outplayed fellow contestants to be proclaimed the winner for the second year in a row.   The new Cases Competition was a real draw, and the winners were Case 46: Rheumatic Mitral Valve Disease: Huge Left Atrial Thrombus; Raja Dashti, MD, Amiri Hospital, Kuwait. Case 21: Failure of Guideline Based Anticoagulation in a Patient with Atrial Fibrillation and a Mechanical Mitral Valve; Halil Mutlu, Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, MD.

The winner of the Young Investigator Competition was Dr. Josef Korinek, MD, of the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, MN. As the winner, he will be a featured speaker at the EuroEcho10 meeting in December.

Pictures from the meeting will be posted on the ASE Website (www.asecho.org) next month and featured in the September issue of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography.

Plan now to join us at the 2007 ASE Scientific Sessions in Seattle, June 16-20 ( online registration will open on Dec. 1, 2006)
